WWP secures first BBC commission with Saving Our Beautiful Bali

Wilson Worldwide will air its first BBC film on CBBC on Monday 18 November.

Saving Our Beautiful Bali is an insightful story about a young and inspirational environmental campaigner who lives on the island of Bali in Asia.

The documentary follows teenager Isabel Wijsen who is on a mission to save Bali against plastic pollution. Since the age of 10 she has been campaigning for a law to ban single-use plastic. In June this year, the Balinese government worked with Isabel, her elder sister Melati and their youth movement, Bye Bye Plastic Bags to ban plastic bags on the entire island.

Viewers will follow Isabel as she travels across the island, to see if the ban is really working. She visits a turtle sanctuary to see first-hand how plastic impacts wildlife, and takes part in a beach clean-up with local school children. Isabel’s campaigning culminates in an entire village of people spelling out ACT NOW on a polluted beach. A spectacular satellite image from space, a ‘space selfie’, captures the moment and beams the message out to the world.

“It was great to work with the BBC and to produce this hugely relevant film,” enthused executive producer Josh Wilson. “Climate change is the number one topic on everyone’s lips right now, so to film the story of a young girl who is so passionate about the damage plastic is causing and has already created such extraordinary change, has been one of the most impactful productions I have been involved in.”

Cheryl Taylor, Head of Content, BBC Children’s added:We’re thrilled to be able to tell Isabel’s story on CBBC. Young people are leading the way in shining a light on this important issue. Our viewers will love finding out more about Isabel’s amazing life.”

Saving Our Beautiful Bali was produced by Duncan McAlpine, filmed and directed by Khurrum M. Sultan and Executive Produced by Alison Gregory and Josh Wilson.

The executive editor for CBBC was Kez Margrie.

Saving Our Beautiful Bali will be on CBBC at 5.30pm on Monday 18 November and available on the BBC iPlayer from Tuesday.
