The ‘Who is Wilson Worldwide?’ series is a way of letting you get to know exactly who we are, whether you are a follower of what we do, someone looking to get to know a bit more about the industry, or just someone who happened to stumble upon us. The company is small in number but has a huge passion for creating the best possible content for your TV, and over the next few weeks you will get to know the people behind the ideas, when we ask them a little bit about themselves.

This week we meet Weiying Huang who has recently started interning with us at WWP! We asked Weiying to answer a few questions so we could get to know her better and what she loves about our industry!

What is your name?

Weiying Huang

I am a intern for Wilson Worldwide Production and work with the development team to develop some TV formats, especially some projects between UK and China.

How long have you worked here?

About one month

What were you doing before you worked here?

I was a postgraduate student who studied New Media at the University of Leeds.

What is the best thing about your job?

It is exciting for me to work for a TV and Film production company. I learn about lots of the different and interesting projects that the company are working on and I participate in the production process.

What is your favourite project that you have worked on?

Since I love visiting museums and galleries in the UK, I have produced three magazines about museums that aims to provide greatest insights for British museum lovers as a group chief editor during my undergraduate study.

What made you want to work in tv production?

I think people who work in the TV production industry always have creative ideas but the most important thing is that I want to learn how they put their ideas into practice.

For anyone wanting to work in TV production what advice would you give them?

First of all, you should always need to be passionate and determined to work in this industry. Apart from that you should keep learning, get familiar to different programmes, be sensitive to new trends in the industry as well as mastering more technical skills about TV production. Another important thing for people who want to work in the industry is to accumulate more helpful contacts in order to build your network.

Any hobbies outside of work?

I love traveling and taking photographs. Traveling is one of the best means for learning as you can definitely be inspired from different cultures you experience and people with different cultural backgrounds you meet. The more inspiration you get, the more valuable work you can produce.

Favourite programme to watch that is on at the moment and why?

Recently I like The Crown—The TV drama that talks about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The characters in The Crown have distinct personalities and I also like the plot as it depicts many stories about British Royal Family that I didn’t know before.

What is your favourite quote or saying?

读书到最后,是为了让我们更宽容地去理解这个世界有多复杂。

“The ultimate goal of reading is to make people understand about how complex the world is more tolerantly”. We always learn about what is happening around the world through reading but I think the more important thing is how we look at the world and how we treat people with kindness.
