‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ is a story that takes place at the end of the golden age of Hollywood, featuring a former star and his stunt double who want to make it big in Hollywood. Critics are describing it as Tarantino’s greatest works. Here is everything you need to know….
About the film
The film is directed and written by Quentin Tarantino.
It stars Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie and many more big names.
It has been said that Tarantino worked on the screenplay for 5 years.
The title of the film has a sort of fairy-tale aspect.
There was only one copy of the screenplay to begin with which meant Pitt and DiCaprio had to go to Tarantino’s house to read it through. They were the only two who got to read the whole screenplay through. Other cast members were only given their individual scenes to read through.
The film centers around DiCaprio and Pitt’s characters.
Tarantino considers himself one of the luckiest directors to be able to have case Di Caprio and Pitt in the same film.
DiCaprio and Robbie have starred together before in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’.
When asked if he had ever been told no by an actor, Tarantino jokingly said that he doesn’t ask people unless they are going to say yes, but did admit that it had been a while since someone had said no to working with him.
This is DiCaprio’s first film since winning his Oscar for ‘The Revenant’.
Sony won the rights for the film against Warner Bros, Universal Pictures and Paramount Pictures etc.
Tarantino has said that the screenplay for this film is the most personal to him.
The film received a seven minute standing ovation at its Cannes premiere.
As the movie references Sharan Tate’s murder, it was orginally to be released on the 50th anniversary since her death until ite release date was changed to the 26th July.
Debra Tate (Sharan Tate’s sister) was skeptical about the portrayal of her sister, but after discussing it with Tarantino and seeing Robbie’s research prior to the film she gave it her blessing.
Uma Thurman’s daughter appears in this film as a flower girl. She has starred in three movies directed by Tarantino.
Tarantino has said that he plans to do one more film and then he is retiring, however he did say that he would not disappear.
Robbie wears some of Tate’s real jewelry given to her by Debra Tate.
Tarantino admits that he had worries over writing in Sharon Tate’s story, saying he was worried it may be in bad taste but said “That doesn’t mean I didn’t want to try.” He said that the dark side of the story is the reason it took him so long to finish the film.
